Ellen McDonough is an award-winning, self-taught artist with
nearly 20 years experience in art and photography. Her passion is beautiful, mystical places whether they exist on
Earth or only in her mind's eye.
As an artist, Ellen has done sketches, watercolors and mixed media art. Her passion, however is digital painting of
"mystical sanctuaries" which typically feature classical architecture set against a vibrantly-colored, often other-worldly landscape.
Creating her designs is a multi-step process: architectural details are first modelled and rendered in 3d Studio Max or Bryce 3d,
then the image is imported into Photoshop or Corel Painter where Ellen "paints" the remaining elements of the scene. The final images
are mounted on canvas or produced as limited-edition prints.
Ellen sees these sanctuaries in her mind's eye, and also gets inspiration from her travels to beautiful, exotic places worldwide.
When designing, Ellen always feels as if these places actually exist; they are not just her imaginings.
Often she will feel presence guiding her, pointing out details of the scene.
Ellen spends warmer months in Boston and cooler months in California or Arizona where she markets her art as prints and gallery wraps.
It is Ellen's hope that her designs offer people inspiration, a sense of peace, and a feeling of being taken away to a beautiful respite
far from everyday concerns.

As a photographer, Ellen specializes in travel photography, traveling the world - often solo - capturing images of mystical, magical places.
Some of the places Ellen has visited include Egypt, Greece, Mexico. Hawaii, Ireland, Scotland, England, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, New Hampshire and many more.
Ellen's camera equipment has included Pentax 35mm SLR, Minolta Maxxum 5 35mm SLR and FujiFilm e900 digital point & shoot.
Most of her images are retouched with Photoshop, and all are available for purchase or licensing.
